They don't mention his age, but Randy Couture is 45 years old here. He won the heavyweight title and defended it in the same year when he was 44. Incredible what Randy Couture was able to accomplish.

Very true, but Couture signed a contract knowing the risks fighting a younger bigger man. Couture's age, yes, was his enemy.

What's your point? Randy at 45 is likely in better condition than you are and Couture's experience is what kept him in this fight. Plus with Lesnar's greenness made it even less of a concern seeing Randy has always had amazing cardio.

Yeah you saw his arm drop though which was his way of "intelligently defending himself" until he gets dazed and he stopped which is infact what happened the ref still allows another 10 punches. Bad call by about 4 seconds which is a very long time when its brock throwing even short shot is an eternity make no mistake. They did that because its randy he's a savage and it was a title fight. I'm pretty sure Randy was good with it given the chance to fight out as he stemmed from the original ufc crew where rules werent so soft like they are today. No harm, no foul regardless, but the definition of defending himself went stopped when he dropped the arm, and that was the signal to stop it, but i believe for the reasons above they let it go. Old school rules were you tap pass out or are knocked out cold and cant otherwise defend yourself it was then stopped usuallybresulting in the guy taking shot out cold still until the ref jumped into stop it.

@take7upyours822 No need to be rude. Lesnar has admitted to using anabolic steroids, so that's a given. He was using them when he was a WWE star, and when he tried having a career in the UFC. And of course, skill is always important. But, the steroids give a very unfair advantage. That's why some fighters use them. Remember when Lesnar had some health problems? He couldn't use the steroids during that time. When he came back to the octagon to face Alistair Overeem, Lesnar had shrunk, along with his muscles, and Overeem got ahold of him, and Lesnar gave up. I don't think of Lesnar as a warrior. I think of him as what he really is. He's a WWE wrestler who was pumped up on steroids, crossed over to the UFC, had a few fights, got a whooping, and couldn't take anymore and went back to wrestling. You have a great day, Carli

Randy came in at only 219 for this fight too, lighter than he usually did for HW fights, as he knew the extra muscle wouldn’t make much difference against the bigger and stronger Brock, so he planned to wear Brock down and then finish him late. Brock is a perfect example of an opponent that you should take half guard over mount if the opportunity arises. He's so much bigger, heavier, stronger that you wouldn't be in top mount for very long before he rolls you. You can say what you want but Randy Couture doing that at 45 years old was unreal. I don't think most people understand how dangerous of a situation Brock Lesnar being on top of you is. My little brother is big like that and getting tackled by him feels like getting tackled by a mountain.

I started watching the sport back in 06 and just thought it was mind blowing that a guy who was 44 could win a title and then go up against the biggest, both metaphorically and literally, dude in the company. That and Brock was that huge and could move so quick and fast it was unbelievable. I’ve always wondered who he could have been in the UFC if he came right into fighting MMA right after college. Granted he made a stupid amount of money in the WWE so props to him, but I’ve always wondered what it would have looked like if he started in the UFC right after being an elite wrestler in college.

They teach hitting the side of the neck like that in Marine Corps MP school. They do it to you at like half power to show you it works. It makes you black out and start falling at half power. I caught myself before I hit the ground, but a 110-pound female MP hit the floor like a sack of potatoes.

In retrospect it's hilarious how bad Lesnar was, but in this fight he kept it simple and that worked in his favor. 90% of his strikes were just jabs where he covered up immediately afterward to avoid any counter shots. You can see at 6:03 when he catches Couture with a good elbow, he has no idea how to follow up effectively, just like when he caught Heath Herring at the start of their fight and barrelled in head first like a bully on a short bus. You can also see in the replay when he throws the 1-2 that drops Couture, he winces as he prepares to get hit lmao. As soon as he fought someone who could hit him repeatedly he wilted like a daisy in a drought.
